What does a successful marriage look like? A happy couple with perfect chemistry and zero arguments? Not really! The main reason why marriages crumble is because we get into the relationship with too high expectations. Marriages are in fact constant work-in-progress models that are never perfected. All that happens is lesser arguments and amiable compromises.
So let go of the high expectations and fourteen other things to ensure that your marriage stays happy and positive.
Not trusting your partner: Or him not trusting you; either situation spells disaster for a successful marriage.
Playing ego games: You both have to work towards making this marriage work. Had a fight? Pick up that phone and apologise instead of always expecting it from your man.
Not listening: Most of us listen to offer an opinion. Stop that and really listen to what your partner is saying. Sometimes everyday mundane things escalate into bigger problems and we are just caught off guard.
Playing the blame game: If only he didn’t do this, we’d be happy. How often do you find yourself thinking this? Don’t impose standards on the way your partner needs to behave.
Taking the blame: It takes two to make a marriage work or break. So while it’s a good idea to not blame him always, don’t end up taking all the blame either.
Not trusting your partner: Or him not trusting you; either situation spells disaster for a successful marriage.
