MICHAEL SCHUMACHER 'FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE'

Doctors say former F1 world champion would not have survived accident in French Alps if he had not been wearing a helmet
Michael Schumacher remains in a critical condition and fighting for his life after sustaining serious head injuries in an off-piste skiing accident at a resort in the French Alps, French doctors have said.

Schumacher, 44, was airlifted to Grenoble after falling heavily and hitting his head while skiing on an unmarked slope at the Méribel resort with friends and his 14-year-old son.

At a press conference in Grenoble, doctors said he was in a coma when he arrived at the hospital and had to be operated on immediately. They said his condition remained "extremely serious" and he was being kept in an artificial coma, but that it was too early to give an accurate prognosis.

"We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher," Professor Marc Penaud, the deputy director of Grenoble clinic, said. "It's too soon to talk about."

He confirmed that the former F1 champion had arrived at the clinic at around 12:40pm on Sunday with a severe brain trauma and immediately underwent an operation.

IF I WAS HOME FOR CHRISTMAS AS NARRATED CHELSEA PLAYERS

Two years ago the official Chelsea website asked some of our overseas players to tell us about Christmas traditions in their homeland. With new players from different countries at the club this winter, it is time to ask some more…

Eden Hazard
In Belgium we celebrate Christmas on the 25th with all the family. Everyone is together, cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters. We have a Christmas tree, we call it a sapin. There are just a few presents under the tree. Before Christmas we each pick a piece of paper out of a hat which will have a family member's name on it. We then buy a present for that person, so everybody gives one present and everybody receives one present. For food, we eat a traditional meal called a raclette. You heat some cheese with a special machine so it melts and then you scrape off the melted cheese. We have potatoes and dried meats with it. That's a normal Belgian Christmas!

Mark Schwarzer
A traditional Australian Christmas for me would involve hot weather and a barbecue, but not on the beach because I'm from the west. We all sit around the Christmas tree in nothing but a pair of shorts because it's so hot. We get our presents on Christmas Eve, which is the German tradition. We have dinner, clean up, open our presents and then go out. In terms of what we eat, it would usually be a roast. We used to have our own ducks and geese so that's what we would eat.

8 CELEBRITIES WHO TORMENTED NIGERIANS IN 2013

1. Tonto Dike
From her crappy music, to her even crappier acting, down to her tacky style choices, this council member of the bleachers inc is certainly a train wreck. Fighting on Twitter, dissing other “celebs” on social media, showing off knock offs on instagram down to the NDLEA weed episode, there is no stopping Tonto. Girl loves attention, and will do anything to get it. If only she can devote this amount of passion to bettering her craft.

2. Davido
What Davido lacks in talent, he makes up with a HUGE ego. This noise maker is a product of a massive PR machine, oiled by (as we hear) family money. The spoilt brat flights at clubs, spews rubbish during interviews, and is always ready to cuss out anyone who doesn’t agree with him. In a country where you can become a “celeb” with half baked talent, Davido certainly reigns supreme.

LADY GAGA FOUND LOVE IN TAYLOR KINNEY

Lady Gaga has opened up about her romance with Taylor Kinney, saying she has finally "found love".

The Do What U Want singer admitted to Fashion magazine that her romantic life hasn't all been smooth-sailing in the past.

But Gaga revealed that she and the Chicago Fire star - who started dating in 2011 after she chose him to play her lover in the video for hit single You And I - are the real thing.

She said: "It has been hard for me to find it but I have found love. When you meet someone that's not intimidated by the amazing people that are around you [or] by the love that you receive - that's love."

The Bad Romance singer went on: "Men weren't always happy for me. It was very challenging to watch a woman be so successful."

The 27-year-old also told the magazine how music helps her to cope with sadness.

She explained: "I put all my pain into my work and as joyful as this album (ARTPOP) is, this joy and if you look at the album cover there's an explosion of joy that is coming from a place of intense sadness that's been in my heart since I was younger and this is why we understand each other because I was not born happy, naturally always joyful or believing in myself. I was born with a sad heart.

"I didn't feel alive unless I was on a stage."

JONATHAN TO OBASANJO: EX-PRESIDENT’S LETTER THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY

December 20, 2013
His Excellency,
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR
Agbe L’Oba House, Quarry Road,
Ibara, Abeokuta.
RE: BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE
I wish to formally acknowledge your letter dated December 2, 2013 and other previous correspondence similar to it.
You will recall that all the letters were brought to me by hand. Although both of us discussed some of the issues in those letters, I had not, before now, seen the need for any formal reply since, to me, they contained advice from a former President to a serving President. Obviously, you felt differently because in your last letter, you complained about my not acknowledging or replying your previous letters.
It is with the greatest possible reluctance that I now write this reply. I am most uneasy about embarking on this unprecedented and unconventional form of open communication between me and a former leader of our country because I know that there are more acceptable and dignified means of doing so.
But I feel obliged to reply your letter for a number of reasons: one, you formally requested for a reply and not sending you one will be interpreted as ignoring a former President.
Secondly, Nigerians know the role you have played in my political life and given the unfortunate tone of your letter, clearly, the grapes have gone sour.  Therefore, my side of the story also needs to be told.
The third reason why I must reply you in writing is that your letter is clearly a threat to national security as it may deliberately or inadvertently set the stage for subversion.
The fourth reason for this reply is that you raised very weighty issues, and since the letter has been made public, Nigerians are expressing legitimate concerns. A response from me therefore, becomes very necessary.

MOYES LAVISHES PRAISE ON ROONEY

David Moyes believes Wayne Rooney is setting the standard for Manchester United.
For most of the summer it seemed certain Rooney would be heading out of Old Trafford.

In the end, United's hierarchy stood firm and their new manager has worked wonders in getting Rooney focused after all the uncertainty.

And that has proved to be a master stroke given Rooney has been United's key man this term as Robin van Persie's contribution faltered.

"What Wayne is doing is making the others play well because he is playing well," said Moyes.
"He has turned himself into a real team player.

"With the assists for the team and the goals, his all-round contribution has been fantastic."

Just as important as the work Rooney has put in on the pitch, Moyes has detected a desire to assume more responsibility off it.

OPEN LETTER FROM POLICE CHIEF DAVID OLIVER TO KANYE

Dear Kanye West,

I am honored to be writing such an important star. I am a mere Internet sensation. I’m not sure I am worthy to address you, although the Huffington Post did say I was “Humorous and Insanely Popular.” I don’t pay much attention to those things. Anyway, please excuse my interference in your life for a quick second.

I read your interview and also watched it on video. You said:

“I’m just giving of my body on the stage and putting my life at risk, literally….and I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.”

I want to thank you for putting your life on the line for all of us every day. I know that being a rapper is tough work. I have tried to rap, and it is very difficult to keep up with the pulse of the rhyme flow…although when Ice Ice Baby comes on the radio, I can usually keep up with ol’ Vanilla. Anyhow, your job is just some very dangerous work. Most people don’t consider… if you rap really fast, without a chance to inhale, you could pass out and hit your head.

That last paragraph was covered in sarcasm. I’m letting you know, just so you do not think I agree with your very ignorant assessment of your career (or any other performer)as it relates to a person in the military or a police officer’s service. You sir, are as misguided as they come. I do have a suggestion for you. Since you are accustomed to danger, from your life as an international rapper, I am strongly encouraging you immediately abandon you career as a super star and join the military. After joining, I would like you to volunteer to be deployed in Afghanistan or one of the numerous other forward locations where our men an women are currently serving. When the Taliban starts shooting at you, perhaps you could stand up and let the words flow. It could be something like “I’m Kanye West, wearing a flak vest.” I’m sure they would just drop weapons and surrender. You could quite possibly end all wars, just from the enemy being star-struck.

Your line of thinking is part of the problem in the world today….which include entertainers thinking they are something more than just entertainers. I know it is supply and demand and the demand for your services is high. I get economics. What I do not get is you EVER comparing what you do for a living to our heroic military members, who are always in harm’s way… and my brother and sister police officers who have to go to work carrying weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest to protect themselves.

Check yourself, before you wreck yourself….Chief Oliver.

OKONJO-IWEALA PRESENTS N4.6 TRILLION 2014 BUDGET TO NASS

The Federal Government has proposed a budget estimate of N4.6 Trillion for the 2014 fiscal year, one billion less than the 2013 figure.

The budget, which was laid before the two chambers of the National Assembly by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also estimates that N268.4 billion will be spent on the Subsidy Re-Investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

According to the minister, the budget supports the federal government’s drive to diversify the economy and create jobs.

The National Assembly had deferred the presentation of the budget on a number of times which made President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the Finance Minister to submit the budget proposal to the National Assembly.

WHO ARE THE HUNGRY?

Most of the world’s hungry live in developing countries. According to the latest Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) statistics from 2013, there are 842 million hungry people in the world and 98 percent of them are in developing countries.  They are distributed like this:

Rural riskRural risk

Three-quarters of all hungry people live in rural areas, mainly in the villages of Asia and Africa. Overwhelmingly dependent on agriculture for their food, these populations have no alternative source of income or employment. As a result, they are vulnerable to crises. Many migrate to cities in their search for employment, swelling the ever-expanding populations of shanty towns in developing countries.

FarmersHungry farmers

FAO calculates that around half of the world's hungry people are from smallholder farming communities,  surviving off marginal lands prone to natural disasters like drought or flood. Another 20 percent belong to landless families dependent on farming and about 10 percent live in communities whose livelihoods depend on herding, fishing or forest resources.

The remaining 20 percent live in shanty towns on the periphery of the biggest cities in developing countries. The numbers of poor and hungry city dwellers are rising rapidly along with the world's total urban population.

ChildrenChildren

An estimated 146 million children in developing countries are underweight - the result of acute or chronic hunger (Source: The State of the World's Children, UNICEF, 2009).  All too often, child hunger is inherited: up to 17 million children are born underweight annually, the result of inadequate nutrition before and during pregnancy.

WomenWomen

Women are the world's primary food producers, yet cultural traditions and social structures often mean women are much more affected by hunger and poverty than men. A mother who is stunted or underweight due to an inadequate diet often give birth to low birthweight children.

Around 50 per cent of pregnant women in developing countries are iron deficient (source: Unicef). Lack of iron means 315,000 women die annually from hemorrhage at childbirth. As a result, women, and in particular expectant and nursing mothers, often need special or increased intake of food.

IS BEYONCÉ A FEMINIST ICON? A DEBATE BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE FEMINISTS

First lady Michelle Obama has described Beyoncé as a “role model who kids everywhere can look up to.” Oprah Winfrey called her the “pre-eminent mistress of the universe.” Despite counting two of the most influential women in the world as fans, Beyoncé still has her detractors – particularly within the feminist community. And it seems, when it comes to the question of whether or not Beyoncé is a feminist role model, the dividing line is often one of race between her detractors and supporters.

Almost immediately after the debut of her fifth studio album, the debate over Beyoncé as a feminist figure was reignited. As much as fans loved it, reviews also rolled in blasting Beyoncé for its overly sexual lyrics and images. Simultaneously, others — including MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry — heralded it as a “feminist manifesto.”

Does Harris-Perry see the singer differently because she is also a black woman?

SENATOR YERIMA DIVORCES HIS 17 YEAR OLD EGYPTIAN WIFE, MARRIES ANOTHER EGYPTIAN AGED 15

I think is time for majority of people at the corridor of power to be compelled to have a session with Psychologists for their certain questionable characters.

Just barely three years after marrying 14 year old Marian from Egypt, the former Zamfara State governor, has allegedly divorced her and married a new wife also from Egypt. Marian, before the divorce, gave birth to a child for this senator.

Yerima and four men, said to be members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly were in Egypt a few weeks ago for the wedding of Fathia his new bride who is 15 years old.

The reason he divorced Marian is to enable him take a new wife as he's not allowed more than four wives.

RACIAL ARTICLE ABOUT MARIAH CAREY'S VISIT TO NIGERIA

Whoever wrote the article below regarding Mariah Carey and her performance in Nigeria must be a racist. The writer is without knowledge of what is going on in his/her country as compare to what is happening in Nigeria.  America as they claim is not God’s own nation because of the level of crimes and atrocities going daily in this country especially among the youth. A country that anyone can wake up in a day and takes the live of the innocent ones or school children and left untouched. A country where guns and ammunition are encouraged and embraced.

Why will a man in his/her right sense be criticizing an entertainer that is well accepted all over the world for performing in a country that appreciates her talent and songs? Should Mariah Carey be discriminating about which country she can and cannot perform for? How many American artistes have performed alive in Nigeria without any problem? Why this negative comments about Nigeria and not America? Which country is without blemish, crime, corruption, terrorism, scammers or bad leadership?

USA was recently caught tapping phone calls of several Head of State of different countries but nothing happens about it. Is this a display of good leadership by the so called leaders in United States?
Who invented terrorism with the invention of gun and other weapons of war? You invented terrorism with the advent of guns and other weapon of mass destruction and you now turn to Africa as been involved in terrorism.

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS: TOTTENHAM SACK MANAGER

Tottenham have sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas in the wake of Sunday's 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool.
The defeat was the club's worst at White Hart Lane in 16 years and left Spurs seventh in the Premier League - eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

"The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties."
Villas-Boas was dismissed by Chelsea in March 2012 after just over eight months in charge at Stamford Bridge, and he was hoping to rebuild his reputation at Tottenham.

YOUR GOVERNMENT STINKS WITH CORRUPTION, OBASANJO TELLS JONATHAN

“May God grant you the grace for at least one effective corrective action against high corruption, which seems to stink all around you in your government,” Mr. Obasanjo said.

President Obasanjo in a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, titled: “Before It Is Too Late”, challenged the National Assembly to know that Nigerians were watching to see if it would be accomplice to the crime or redeem itself by probing it.

“When the guard becomes the thief, nothing is safe, secure or protected in the house,” the former President said. “We must all remember that corruption, inequity and injustice breed poverty, unemployment, conflict, violence and, wittingly or unwittingly, create terrorists.”

He said the serious issue of non-remittance of the revenue realised from the sale of crude oil allocation for domestic refining must be thoroughly and transparently investigated and the findings made public.

LYNXXX (NIGERIAN RAPPER)- I HAVE A CRUSH ON CHIDINMA

Sexy Nigerian rapper, Lynxxx, has confessed that he has a thing for Chidinma. During an interview with Pulse, the Syndik8 records CEO confessed to having a crush on the petite singer.
“Chidinma is my celebrity crush. She’s cute and tiny and she has a powerful voice. I think that’s attractive.

I haven’t done a song with Chidinma because I’m shy. I’m really not a shy person, but around her, I am shy.
Like I walked into an embassy a month ago, and who do I see? Chidinma.
I hugged her and she’s just so tiny. I’m 6’2, I’m a big guy, she’s tiny and she fits right into my hands,” he revealed.

Lynxxx has always been very expressive of his feelings for “Miss Kedike”, but it is anyone’s guess if she’ll come around to reciprocating them.

NEVER LOSE HOPE

The below was sent from a very close friend of mine as well as frequent reader on this blog.  The message is quite inspirational and a food for thoughtful

Over time I have discovered there is no absolute finish line for everyone in the race of life. Our tracks are different and our durations are different.
The only thing we have in common is the same empire. For instance, one person graduates at age 20 and struggles for another 5 years to get a job, another might graduate at 25 and get a job immediately.
One can marry a virgin and wait for the next decade to have the blessings of children, another lady probably after having series of abortions in her past, becomes a mother almost immediately after marriage.

PICTURES FROM THE MANDELA’S HISTORIC MEMORIAL SERVICE

As he lay to rest forever, the people of South Africa and other part of the world celebrate Nelson Mandela’s leadership, philosophy and dedicated life to humanity and his native country.

The man Mandela stands out among all other African leaders who are majorly egocentric and power drunk. He fought the fight of victory and when the victory came he not only led his people to a New South Africa but a better and brighter South Africa where people who are hopeless became hopeful and have reason to live and be called South Africans.

Below are some pictures from his memorial ceremony:

FIFA 2014 WORLD-CUP DRAW: NIGERIA gets ARGENTINA, IRAN AND BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

It was more than tension as we monitored the pairing of nations for the forthcoming FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil. First, Argentina was grouped into Group F and suddenly Nigeria was paired with her old rivalry football nation Argentina. While we watched other groups been filled up, it came to a stage when about four countries were left to fill the missing space of the groups.
Portugal, Netherland, Bosnia-Herzegovina and France were left unpaired. My fellow patriotic Nigerians were all soaked with tension praying that Nigeria should not be paired with Portugal, Netherland or France.

CYBER BULLYING:TOKE MAKINWA AND LINDA IKEJI ISSUE- TONI PAYNE

Artile by Toni Payne-9ice's ex wife

Let me start by saying, we sometimes avoid those touchy subjects because we wish to avoid “drama” but Cyber Bullying is one concept it seems we are yet to get a full grasp on its consequences. Currently, in America there is a full campaign launched against bullying in general, where different celebs have been actively campaigning to stop bullying. We have seen cases of young ones committing suicide because they couldn’t handle the bullying. I pray and hope things don’t get this far in my motherland, although I suspect it may have and we just don’t document it as much.
For the sake of time, I will try not to over talk but a lot has to be said to make my point very clear so kindly excuse the long read, (I tend to do that when im passionate about something). I know a lot keep quiet to avoid backlash but hey, it is what it is.
There is this ”trend” of making vicious comments about others that has become popularized by certain blogs. Overtime, its now seeming like the norm, with more people appearing to see nothing wrong with it. We even have corporate brands willing to identify with such sites irrespective of the damage or harm they cause.

RAPPER TRINIDAD JAMES ROBBED AT GUNPOINT IN NYC FORCED TO SAY “N*GGA, N*GGA, N*GGA”…

NEW YORK – “They even stole the gold out his teeth; Have you seen his teeth? I wouldn’t eat after the n*gga if he paid me” According to a vendor who witnessed rapper Trinidad James being held at gunpoint by two masked assailants. Ironically there was no gold all on rapper Trinidad James neck upon the arrival of three NYPD officers Wednesday night when the alleged robbery took place. “Chains, watch, shades; Gone! There was nothing left but hair, teeth and the phone he dialed 911 on” – Officer Douglass An official report reveals he was stripped down to his underwear and forced to say “n*gga, n*gga, n*gga” with his eyes closed until the robbers jumped in a car and sped off with over $20,000 in clothes and jewelry.

RAPPER JA RULE LEAVES WIFE AND KIDS FOR MAN HE MET IN PRISON

NEW YORK — “He wrote all them love songs and still don’t know how to treat a b*tch” Responded Aisha Atkin’s rapper Ja Rule’s wife in an opening statement during her MTV exclusive “Married Life After Prison” set to air later this month. “We spent 10 plus years building our marriage but it only took him two to decide he’d rather suck a d*ck than be with his wife” Ja Rule was sentenced to two years in jail for a gun charge and released earlier in 2013 when he presumably returned to life with his family, but according to Aisha that is simply not the case. “He returned home alright; To get his shit and leave” She claims that Ja Rule real name Jeffery Atkins simply told her that he was sleeping with his personal trainer and not until later did she find out that not only was he a man, but his prison cell mate. Aisha admits that she hopes this is just a phase, but is now convinced that the whole 50 cent thing was not just a silly rap feud, but more than likely a crush.

THE DAY OF MY DEATH---- BY FEMI ARIBISALA

I was born on 12th April, 1952.  I died twenty-years ago on 26th December, 1993.  I was killed by armed-robbers on the way from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

My wife was coming back from a trip to the United States and I went to the airport with six-year-old Femi-Kevin to meet her.  She had two major pieces of luggage.  I put one in the boot and the other in the back-seat of our car.  It was around seven-thirty in the evening, and we set out for home.

Soon, a car overtook us with some people who were shouting at us for some inexplicable reason.  I paid little attention to them.  It is commonplace in Lagos for some driver to be upset with you for some reason or the other.  But no sooner had they overtaken us than they swerved and blocked the road with their car.  Immediately, some men jumped out menacingly.

Dicing with death

From that moment, everything became surreal.  Indeed, everything switched to slow-motion.  I slammed on the brakes and the car stopped.  I switched to reverse-gear and the car moved back.  Our assailants were banking on the element of surprise, but my prompt reactions upstaged them.  Having reversed the car, I again brought it to a stop.  In front of us on the road were four armed men.
I had always foolishly believed in myself.  I regarded myself as a problem-solver.  True, this was a rather bigger problem than I had had to deal with before.  This particular one was a question of life and death.  But it was a problem nevertheless.  Therefore, I decided to try and address it like any other problem.  First; I needed to make a quick decision.  I had to decide whether to continue to reverse the car; or go forward or just surrender.

TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE LAST, DON'T FIGHT ABOUT IT PART 2:

There is, however, one problem with all these studies, as most of the researchers readily admit. It's a different world today than it was years ago when many of these projects began. The gender roles are less clearly defined, the breadwinner is not always the male anymore, and women are free to venture where no female would have gone even a couple of decades ago.

But interestingly, researchers at Ohio State University in Columbus found that one thing that is not likely to change over the decades is the level of conflict between the partners. These researchers followed nearly 1,000 couples over 20 years, beginning in 1980, and found surprisingly little change in the amount of conflict over that length of time.

That study, based on data collected during the Life Course survey at Penn State University, found a slight decrease in the amount of conflict in the final years of the project, but it was very small.

ACTOR PAUL WALKER (FAST & FURIOUS) DIES

Santa Clarita, California (CNN) -- Actor Paul Walker, who shot to fame as star of the high-octane street racing franchise "Fast & Furious," died in a fiery car crash in Southern California on Saturday. He was 40.
Walker was in the passenger seat of a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, driven by a racing team partner, that slammed into a light pole and burst into flames in an office park in the community of Valencia in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Hollywood.
Walker's publicist Ame van Iden confirmed his death Saturday. The driver, identified by CNN affiliate KCAL-TV as Roger Rodus, also died.
"Thank you all for your condolences and prayers while we mourn the loss of our loved ones," read a message posted on the Facebook page for Always Forever, the high-performance car shop owned by Rodus.
Los Angeles Coroner Investigator Dana Bee told CNN on Sunday it would likely take 48 hours to officially identify the remains taken from the twisted wreckage. The families are gathering dental records for use in the identification, which is necessary because of the condition of the bodies, Bee said.

TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE LAST, DON'T FIGHT ABOUT IT PART 1

Marriage is forever, so they say. Then why do so many fail?

Psychologists and marriage counselors have pondered that question ever since the first couple said "I do," followed too soon by "I don't." There are obviously many reasons, but several research projects that have followed couples who have managed to stay married over decades are reaching similar conclusions.

Broadly speaking, they have found that there is too much conflict between the partners, and there are several reasons why it's so hard for two people who presumably love each other to stop fighting. Instead, disagreements fester, leaving open wounds in the relationship, which eventually dies.

A new study from the University of California at Berkeley and Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., finds that it's the wife who plays the terribly important role of calming down a conflict before it gets out of control.
