Manchester United have toppled
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to become the most valuable football brand in the
world, according to a report from Brand Finance.
The English giants lost out on
European football for the first time in 24 years during David Moyes’ ill-fated
ten months at Old Trafford but they have reclaimed their crown from Bayern
Munich after securing lucrative contracts with the likes of Chevrolet and
Adidas.
The report suggests Manchester
United’s brand is now worth a whopping $1.2bn (£789m), meaning the club’s value
has increased an astonishing 63% on their 2014 figure.
As well as signing long-term
sponsorship deals, Brand Finance say the major contributor to United’s rise has
been the Premier League’s new television deal.
‘The most critical success
factor in the Manchester United brand’s renewed financial potency has been this
year’s record-breaking £51.bn deal for the UK broadcast right of the Premier
League.’
