The sell-out was so rapid that some furious Apple
fans had to leave home empty-handed.
The worldwide sales of the latest smartphone,
inclusive of TouchID fingerprint scanner, are expected to hit 3.2 million this
weekend with the UK
allocation of an estimated 50,000 already gone.
According to Mirror, the smartphone range was
already said to be ‘unexpectedly limited’, while its low-cost iPhone5C version
was revealed to be in abundance.
The report said that the cheaper model was
expected to hit 4.5 million global sales this weekend.
Apple had banned pre-orders of the smartphone
while opening the order books for the low-cost 5C model a week ago.
Those who tried to buy the smartphone online,
experienced crashing websites under the huge demand with all networks expecting
a sell-out today.
The report said that the official Apple website
too lacked the new iPhones in gold, silver or slate grey in stock with the
first shipments due next month.
An Apple spokesman said that the demand for the
new iPhones has been incredible, the report added.
