Below are the analyses of the various movies that hit the Box Office in year 2014 that just passed about 48 hours plus and their various earnings and what makes them thick.
See below the movie that has the highest revenue or returns at Box Office last year
25. "300: Rise of an Empire"
Domestic: $106.5 million
International: $224.5 million
Worldwide: $331.5 million
Lowdown: A Warner Bros. success very few people noted or
expected
24. "Mr. Peabody & Sherman"
Domestic: $111.5 million
International: $161.4 million
Worldwide: $272.9 million
Lowdown: With a reported production budget of $145 million
it will be a while before this DreamWorks Animation film even breaks even.
Domestic: $124.8 million
International: $179.3 million
Worldwide: $304.1 million
Lowdown: At a cost of just $12 million, "Fault"
was hands down one of the most profitable films of the year.
22. "Lucy"
Domestic: $126.6 million
International: $332.2 million
Worldwide: $458.8 million
Lowdown: The right movie at the right time to perfectly
capitalize on Scarlett Johansson's growing worldwide fame.
21. "Rio 2"
Domestic: $131.5 million
International: $367.2 million
Worldwide: $498.7 million
Lowdown: An animated hit the U.S. media barely covered but
it's quickly turning into a mini-"Ice Age" franchise for 20th Century
Fox.
20. "Ride Along"
Domestic: $134.9 million
International: $19 million
Worldwide: $153.9 million
Lowdown: The movie that proved Kevin Hart is a legitimate
movie star.
19. "Neighbors"
Domestic: $150.1 million
International: $118 million
Worldwide: $268.1 million
Lowdown: The most successful live action film to date for
both Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.
Domestic: $150.9 million
International: $137.8 million
Worldwide: $288.7 million
Lowdown: A rare blockbuster launch for a new Young Adult
franchise. It's not "Twilight" or "The Hunger Games," but
its success is significant.
Domestic: $166.1 million
International: $190.5 million
Worldwide: $356.6 million
Lowdown: Not only did it live up to the hype, "Gone
Girl" became David Fincher's highest grossing film so far.
16. "How To Train Your Dragon 2"
Domestic: $177 million
International: $441.9 million
Worldwide: $618.9 million
Lowdown: While the critically acclaimed sequel made less
domestically than the first "Dragon," it earned over $120 million
more globally.
Domestic: $178.8 million
International: $470.7 million
Worldwide: $650 million
Lowdown: Did Christopher Nolan's latest suffer from too
much hype stateside? Many would have put down money in Vegas that the epic
would have reached $200 million domestic which it clearly did not. For
comparison's sake, "Gravity" grossed almost $100 million more in the
U.S.
14. "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"
Domestic: $189.5 million
International $439 million
Worldwide: $628.8 million
Lowdown: A nice rebound from the last series' last chapter,
"The Desolation of Smaug," and it still has an excellent shot of
earning $1 billion globally.
Domestic: $191.2 million
International: $286 million
Worldwide: $477.2 million
Lowdown: A cowabunga summer surprise which just gave
Paramount Pictures a new franchise they were desperately searching for.
12. "22 Jump Street"
Domestic: $191.7 million
International: $139.6 million
Worldwide: $331.6 million
Lowdown: With this sort of performance how do they avoid
"23 Jump Street"? Guess everyone should forget about those end
credits, huh?
Domestic: $200.6 million
International: $324.3 million
Worldwide: $524.9 million
Lowdown: Not the kingmaker many thought its would be, but a
major success for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. anyway.
Domestic: $202.8 million
International: $506.1 million
Worldwide: $708.9 million
Lowdown: How can a movie that earns $708 million be deemed
a game changing disappointment? When it barely breaks even in theaters, barely
hits the $200 million mark domestically and has even casual fans speaking out
on social media for something different.
Domestic: $204.7 million
International $120.9 million
Worldwide: $325.4 million
Lowdown: A nice hit for Walt Disney Animation that will
have a big run overseas in 2015.
Domestic: $208.5 million
International $499.7 million
Worldwide: $708.2 million
Lowdown: A big player for 20th Century Fox who built upon
the success of 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" by an eyebrow
raising $206 million worldwide.
7. "X-Men: Days of Future Past"
Domestic: $233.9 million
International $512.1 million
Worldwide: $746 million
Lowdown: Reboot complete. Fox, Simon Kinberg and Bryan
Singer make the "X-Men" a relevant franchise once more.
Domestic: $241.1 million
International $516.3 million
Worldwide: $757.7 million
Lowdown: Considering the reshoots and the delays, a perfect
example of how true star power (thank you Angelina Jolie) and the right concept
can click with moviegoers.
Domestic: $245.4 million
International $841.9 million
Worldwide: $1.08 billion
Lowdown: Needless to say, Paramount Pictures focus on this
franchise is much more international these days. U.S. performance is almost an
afterthought.
Domestic: $259.7 million
International: $210.3 million
Worldwide: $468 million
Lowdown: A great February surprise for Warner Bros. and
provides them with an animated franchise they have sorely been lacking.
Domestic: $259.7 million
International $454.3 million
Worldwide: $714 million
Lowdown: The success of "The Avengers" rubbed off
on "Winter Soldier" more than "Thor: The Dark World," but
great reviews, word of mouth and Scarlett Johansson didn't hurt either.
2. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1"
Domestic: $313.2 million
International $363 million
Worldwide: $679.3 million
Lowdown: Has a shot at surprising the no. 1 movie for the
highest grossing film released in 2014. Still, a big disappointment compared to
the first two "Hunger Games" movies which earned over $400 million
each in the U.S.
1. "Guardians of the Galaxy" (review-guardians-of-galaxy)
Domestic: $332.8 million
International $439.6 million
Worldwide: $772.4 million
Lowdown: Simply a triumph for Marvel Studios and Walt
Disney Studios on every level. An entertaining new series for moviegoers who
aren't that into superheroes could easily embrace.
