Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Sports and
seasoned Nigeria football administrator, Alhaji Shuaib Gara-Gombe has said
coach Stephen Keshi do not have what it takes to lead the Super Eagles to a
successful outing in Brazil.
Gombe said Keshi’s men have not justified their status as kings of African
football in their recent outing while questioning the choice of players
selected by the former Mali
and Togo
national team handler.
“From the friendlies we have played, I have not seen
proper coordination of that team. They never played like they are truly African
champions,” Gombe told Goal.
“It appears that there are lots of gap created from the
time we won the African Cup of Nations and now we are going to play in the
World Cup.
“There are players who have no business in that team as
the friendlies have clearly shown but unfortunately, these players are taken to
the World Cup,” he added.
The former Gombe State Football Association chairman also
queried the technical know-how of coach Stephen Keshi stating he is
disillusioned on the kind of tactics the ‘big boss’ will employ against their
group oppositions.
“I don’t know the
type of formation we are going to play. We are more or less an attacking team
but our defense is as porous as anything.
“Echiejile is out, I don’t have trust in Yobo while
Ambrose is injury prone so I don’t know what will happen to that defence. Our
consolation is that Vincent Enyeama is at his best,” he continued.
“As much as we score goals, we should have it at the back
of our mind that we are going to concede goals because the goalkeeper alone
does not make the backline.
“Though I am in a confused state but as usual, I will
only pray for Nigeria .
Honestly speaking, Keshi has surprised me with the quality of players he has
taken to this tournament and even the tactics he is going to use,” concluded
Gombe.
