South Africa Funeral Firm To Sue Pastor For 'Resurrection Stunt'

A group of funeral directors in South Africa say they will sue a self-styled prophet who claims to have resurrected a dead man.

A viral video of Pastor Alph Lukau shows him shouting "rise up" to a man lying down in a coffin who then jerks upright to cheers from worshippers.

The funeral companies say they were manipulated into being involved.

The spectacle, seen outside Pastor Lukau's church near Johannesburg, has been ridiculed and condemned by many.

"There are no such things as miracles," the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) told South Africa's national broadcaster.

More than 700 civilians were evacuated from the Dusit D2 complex after a 20-hour siege that echoed a 2013 assault that killed 67 people in Nairobi’s Westgate shopping center in the same neighborhood.

Saudi Teenager Granted Asylum In Canada

Canada's Foreign Minister said Saturday, after a young Saudi women fled to Canada out of fear for her life, that Canada believes "very strongly that women's rights are human rights."

Eighteen-year-old Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun was greeted by Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland as she arrived from Thailand in the Canadian city of Toronto Saturday morning via Seoul, South Korea.

Canada granted Alqunun asylum after she fled her family out of fear for her life.

"It is absolutely the case that there are many women, far, far too many women who are in dangerous situations, both in Canada and around the world," Freeland told reporters at a Toronto airport shortly after Alqunun's arrival. "For a single woman or girl to be in a dangerous situation is one too many."

MMM founder, Sergei Mavrodi, Dies Of Heart Attack At 62

Russian businessman Sergei Mavrodi, whose MMM pyramid scheme deprived millions of Russians of their savings in the 1990s, has died of a heart attack, according to Russia media.

Reports said the 62-year-old was rushed to the hospital late on March 25 with pain in his chest and died several hours later.

Mavrodi’s MMM financial pyramid was a typical Ponzi scheme in which earlier investors receive their profits from subsequent investors. Mavrodi promised returns of 20 percent to 75 percent a month, as well as lotteries and bonuses for investors.

As soon as the number of new clients stopped growing, the pyramid collapsed, causing huge financial losses for at least 10 million people, in some cases leaving them destitute.
