THE 10 WORST TRANSFERS OF THE SUMMER 2013

Premier League clubs spent a record £630 million in the summers transfer window. Whilst many signings such as Mesut Ozil to Arsenal, Romelu Lukaku to Everton and Loic Remy to Newcastle have all proved to be master-strokes by their respective managers, not every transfer has been fruitful.

With every incredible transfer comes a poor one, and boy have there been some poor ones this season..

1. Marouane Fellaini - Manchester United
David Moyes' first season as United boss and they nearly went the whole transfer window without a major signing.

So Moyes opted to turn to his old club, Everton, and sign one of their key men in Fellaini. However, all that has done has made Fellaini become vilified as one of the reasons why United are having such a poor season.

United didn't particularly need Fellaini. They required wingers or a creative midfielder much more, which is why spending £27.5 million on a player who is debatably not 'United class' makes the Belgian the worst transfer of the summer.

2. Erik Lamela - Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham's record transfer has been such a disappointment that he might be loaned out in January. In a season where Spurs desperately needed to replace the departed Gareth Bale, Lamela was tipped to be that man.

He has so far shown that he is not the man. Still only 21, it might take just be him trying to adapt to the Premier League, but Spurs need him to adapt a lot quicker if they are to save any hope of getting into Europe this year

3. Stefan Jovetic - Manchester City
The Montenegrin has only played five times since his £22 million move from Fiorentina. A mixture of injuries and the form of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo has meant that he has struggled to even make the bench for City this season.

£22 million is hardly a dent in City's transfer budget, but the transfer is still so far a disappointment.

4. Ricky van Wolfswinkel - Norwich City
The Dutchman was Norwich's marquee signing of the summer, costing the Canaries £8.5 million. One goal in eight appearances has summed up his impact.

He now looks like he will not be getting in the Norwich team any time soon after an injury, with Gary Hooper now getting the goals, and Johan Elmander also playing well for the Canaries
.

5. Iago Aspas - Liverpool
Aspas moved to Liverpool for £7.7 million and has looked really poor. Seven appearances for the Reds this term and has not lived up to expectation, whatsoever.

Suarez's suspension meant that he had a chance to try and impress, but has not had a look in since.

6. Arouna Kone - Everton
Roberto Martinez is a big fan of Kone from his days at Wigan. So much so that he paid £6 million for him.

The Ivory Coast international has repaid his faith by only making five appearances this season, all of them have been as a substitute, before suffering a serious injury ruling him out for the rest of the season.

No goals, no impact, no chance of ever replacing Lukaku in the Everton side.

7. Dwight Gayle - Crystal Palace

£6 million is a lot for a newly promoted club. So when Palace took a risk and made Gayle their record signing, it needed to pay off. And it largely hasn't.

Two goals in 13 appearances is disappointing for Palace fans and also for anyone that enjoys seeing players step up from the football league. He's now behind Marouane Chamakh and Cameron Jerome. Ouch.

8. Roberto Soldado - Tottenham Hotspur

Soldado's struggles have been slightly exaggerated. Tottenham's lack of goals have meant that he has taken a lot of the blame.

And while he can't be completely excused of all the blame, he has not been all that bad. Nine goals in 17 appearances is not a completely disastrous return. But a lot of them have been from the penalty spot.

9. Tiago Ilori - Liverpool
Again, it might be a bit harsh, as the defender is most likely another one for the future. But for £7 million you would have expected Ilori to have made an appearance for the Reds.

The Portuguese defender has been linked to possibly representing England internationally. But that doesn't look like happening any time soon as the former Sporting Lisbon man is currently Liverpool's fifth choice centre back.

10. Luis Alberto - Liverpool
This might be a bit harsh, as Alberto is probably more thought as one for the future. But his impact so far has been minimal.

He had the chance to force his way into the side when Coutinho got injured, but the Spaniard looked average at best. Luckily time is on Alberto's side.
