The
memories and attachment I had about this singer was as a result of the
privilege bestowed on me by my daddy who was fond of the lady unmatched performance (one of her stage performances he witnessed in London ) and voice. He had this old gramophone
that spins when playing the numerous collections of this lady, especially the
album titled ‘Four Seasons Of Love’. ‘Spring Affair’ among other songs on the
album was my favorite and formed the best memory I had about the singer.
Donna
Summer, the queen of disco and a five-time Grammy Award winner as diagnosed of
cancer; a sickness she battled with before her death was pronounced today. News
has it that this legendary singer was active till her death as she was part of
the guest panelists on reality show Platinum Hit by last June and was also
sighted two weeks ago looking good.
Briefly,
Donna Summer (real names: Ladonna Adrian Gaines) was born on December 31, 1948
in Dorchester , Massachusetts to Andrew and Mary Gaines.
Donna attended Burke
High School where she
became so famous for her musical performance with the group blues-rock. Her first
release was a single ‘The Jaynetts’ ‘Sally Go Round The Roses’, followed by ‘If
You Walkin Alone’ in 1972. Her first album ‘Lady of the Night’ was released in
1974 on Groovy Records Label (see the below for other details about the singer)
She
is survived by her adult daughters Mimi (by her first husband, actor Helmuth
Sommer), Brooklyn and Amanda (by second
husband Bruce Sudano).
If you listen to her appended song, you will understand why she is regarded as the 'Queen Of Disco'
