HELL AS DESCRIBED BY UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON GENIUS

Sometimes we need to take our minds off the stress and hustling of life especially for people like us that stay in cities that are densely populated with several activities and job requirements that are eating into our leisure time while trying to survive. This joke was sent to me by a colleague and I want to share it with you all. (Source: I don’t know)
The following is an actual question given on a University of *Washington *chemistry mid-term.
The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my God.'

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

One of the intellects of Nigeria abroad is on absence without leave as she is regarded missing since 9th of December without trace. Dr Tosin Oyelowo is a graduate of University of Charleston West Virginia where she specializes in Pharmacy. The University of Charleston is a private university established in 1888 as the Barboursville Seminary of the Southern Methodist Church but later changed to the present name in 1978.

DUREX- NIGERIAN WOMEN DESERVE A REDRESS REGARDING THE STIGMA OF UNFAITHFULNESS.

A Sample Of African Beauty

It was not just a pain to my heart but I felt so depressed and became weak when I stumbled upon this article on unfaithfulness of women and the research that brought about this pain. This is highly ridiculous, unacceptable, disheartening and blasphemes against Nigerian womanhood. This is a slap on the faces of our great women who labour day and night to see to the growth of our Nation. I will not agree to this conclusion irrespective of the nature and research methodology employed. I will not stand to accept this ridiculous conclusion to stigmatized women especially in my country based on non-scientific research and fallacious hasty generalization.

The article by Nkechi Opurum on cheating dated 7th December 2011(available online: http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/nigerian-women-are-most-unfaithful-durex.Accessd 12/12/2011) and the conclusion that Nigerian women are the most unfaithful in the world caught my attention with disbelief. I was wondering the source of this conclusion and the nature of data used. Is it a primary data collected by the researcher or a sourced data from other agencies, researchers or institution? What kind of research methodology was used to collect the data? What is the validity or reliability of the questionnaire used for the research? Who validates the questionnaire? Was it personal interview or snow balling that used for this research? Was there any pilot study carried out? Was the research based on probability sampling method or non-probability sampling method? What was the nature of the research brief?

I totally disagreed with this as it is disrespectful to our Nigerian women, mothers and women all over the world. I find it so difficult to believe that a reputable company like Durex (which is known for promoting health and safety related contraceptives) could accept and published wrong finding like this, without thinking about the ethics regarding research reporting and presentation. Based on my research experience, I believe this kind of research is not the type that can easily be conducted in an opening environment by asking the participants (who are culturally inclined) about their relationship life especially in a country like Nigeria where it is regarded as a stigma if one is caught cheating on either of the partner. Therefore, I want to know whether the participant were so free to discuss questions that touch their personal life or was it the case of a mentacide. One thing might be certain; it is either that Durex’s research agent lied about the purpose of the research to the respondents, which is totally against the code and conduct guiding research practices or the research findings, report and presentation were manipulated to suit the need of the client. Either of the cases, it is an ethical issue involving the protection of respondents which can be viewed from three perspectives: (i) the ethical issue confronting researchers in their relationships with use of the guise of conducting a survey to sell products (ii) the invasion of the privacy of the respondent (iii) the abuse of the respondents. The research agency (Harris Interactive) of Durex had violated the code and conduct guiding the ethics relating to invasion of the privacy of the respondents and the abuse of the respondents.

Scientifically, I believe a research is conducted to resolve a particular research problem and provide research solution (s). What exactly was the research problem that brought about this finding or conclusion? What were the research objectives and the formulated hypothesis? What are the dependent, independent and other types of variables that were considered and measured in this research? What is the sample size of the Nigerian women used that brought about these representation and generalization? What kind of women was used for this research (that is, the nature respondents for this research)? Talking about the sample size, Durex claimed that 26, 000 respondents from 26 countries were involved in the acclaimed research which implies that at least 1, 000 participants from each stratum (the country) in her stratified sampling. This could imply that just about a barrack in maybe any remote area in Nigeria was used for the research as compared to the 42,534,542 population of females between 15-64yrs. Mathematically; this is just 0.0023% of the given age group. This is unwelcoming.
Come to think about it; does Durex or its research agency thinks the kind of Jerry Springer’s show in America whereby couples cheat on each and publicly confess can happen in here in Nigeria? Not to talk of woman publicly confessing to a stranger (whose intent she knows not) that she cheated on her husband while still in marriage or in relationship. Is the researcher really sure that women were interviewed or teenagers with youthful exuberant or juvenile delinquency were used for this study? Africa countries are countries with rich culture and where virginity till wedding day is highly valued now becomes object of derision.I wondered why bad result, situation, event and things are always associated with the Blacks. The truth is that either the White or the Black it is highly difficult to reach a conclusion about sensitive issue like cheating.
If by this infinitesimal sample size Durex made a generalization to the whole population, then there is need for proper readdress of the group involved. Moreover, I am challenging the authority and the authenticity of this research conducted by Harris Interactive for Durex. I want a public debate and challenge of intellectual principles behind this research and its findings. Most importantly, Durex should redress the Nigeria women in manners that not only befit their qualities as good sister, wives and mothers but also as the Pride of every nation.

LASGIDILIFE FORBES: NIGERIA BANK MD'S LARGER THAN LIFE EARNINGS

While at the Bankers' Hangout, I was engulfed with the thought of how much Bankers were being paid with regards to their spending rate. They seem to know how to enjoy their hard earn money and were at comparison level with their counterparts in the oil and telecommunication sector. While still bothering my head with this, another question struck my head...how much will the so called Managing Directors of these financial institution will be taking home as their take home pay. One thing is certain; their take home pay is more than enough to take them home unlike in certain sectors of the economy where their take home pay can’t even take them home.

Unlike the Nigerian musicians whose recent choruses are of how they make money or having excess money and not knowing how to spend it, they maintain quiet life because of the sensitive nature of their occupations and the watchdog called CBN which serves as the apex regulatory body. Majority of these Managing Directors are always in bullet proof official cars that range from Mercedes Benz G class, Toyota LandCruiser, BMW X5, Prado, and other exotic cars that draw the attentions of passerby in multiple times. Not only that their cars are out of this world but they are always in convoy with armed men. Anyway, why won’t they use armed security men when our Pastors (the earthly shepherds) are surrounded by armed men with heavy chests.

A review of their fat earn salaries revealed that Stanbic IBTC (is a product Standard Bank of South Africa and Investment Bank) MD top the list of all Managing Directors of Banks in Nigeria with a whopping sum of N177 million per annum. You could imagine how much this is in a month or rather a day. MD of Stanbic IBTC earns about N484, 931 in a day (whaooo! don’t swallow the saliva yet) apart from other augmented benefits and allowances, paid trips to anyway around the globe she decides to go. Close in 2nd position is the MD of the Bank that has a legacy for good customers orientation starting from the first MD to the present. GTBank tried to come on the 2nd position in a large disparity in earnings as compared to Stanbic IBTC MD. GTBank MD earns N76.66 million per annum or N210, 016 per day which is far below the highest earning MD. The West African Bank, Ecobank, came 3rd in the ranking of the highest paid director in the Nigerian banking industry. The MD of Ecobank used to be the second highest paid Bank MD in Nigeria until recent reduction in his remuneration.

The fourth position is occupied by the strongest and ever existing old generation bank called 1st Bank. 1st Bank over the years and decades have proved beyond business doubt to be the most competitive bank in Nigeria and Africa with so much transformation and dynamic in meeting up with demands of the business environment as well as clients requirements. The MD of this old generation bank earns about N67 million per annum or N183,562 per day. This not only indicate that the bank is competitive when it comes to customer satisfactions but also remarkable in pay roll of their staff. On 4th position is the bank regarded as Africa Global Bank based on its tentacles in more than 18 countries in African and still intends spreading. UBA is a product of the merger of Nigeria’s third and fifth largest banks, namely the old UBA and the former Standard Trust Bank Plc, and a subsequent acquisition of the
Erstwhile Continental Trust Bank Limited (CTB) came fifth in term of how much her Managing Director earns. The MD of the United Bank For Africa (UBA) earns annual remuneration of N57 million per annum. Wema Bank has the lowest paid Managing Director in the Nigerian banking industry with a take home pay of N8.35 million per annum. This particular take home pay of Wema Bank Managing Director seems questionable for a CEO of a financial institution and not an esusu (Micro Finance Bank). The question is how much will a principal manager or senior manager of Wema Bank will be earning if the overall Boss take home pay cannot take him home?

Let rest our case while you do the thinking about this silent millions within our mist.

Questions:
·         Can any recession catch up with this kind of earning?
·         Do you think this could be a reason for recession/inflation to visit a country?

AN EXCLUSIVE WITH THE CEO OF ARTITUDE INCORPORATED

As one of the corporate sponsors of the forthcoming Bankers' hangout, we have a brief exclusive with the CEO of the upraising fashion company called Artitude. He was seasoned banker turned to a fashion designer icon.
