Wayne Rooney is contemplating the end of his Manchester United career,
according to reports.
With 250 goals, Rooney, 31, is United’s record goalscorer in all
competitions but he has lost his place in the club’s first team this season
following the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho.
The Chinese Super League has pursued Rooney before and according to The
Times, he could leave Old Trafford for China as soon as next month. The
newspaper claims Rooney has “told friends” his association with United will end
in the summer, though the process could be expedited if China calls again.
The Chinese transfer window stays open until February 28, a full month
after the English window closes, giving Rooney an extra few weeks to consider
his future.
Even in the superheated Chinese market—Oscar, the former Chelsea
midfielder, moved this January for around £60 million—Rooney could expect to be
one of the more famous names and one of the best-paid among a growing cadre of
stars from European football.
