"I will never stop believing in our country
& its future. #Inauguration."
Many eyes were expected to be on Hillary Clinton
when the former Democratic presidential candidate arrived to the swearing in
event of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States on Friday.
Her arrival with husband Bill Clinton occurred
at the same time President Barack Obama and President-elect Trump were leaving
the White House for the traditional limo ride of the outgoing and incoming
presidents to the U.S. Capitol, providing a split-screen moment on TV news of
the former election rivals.
Hillary Clinton's attendance, which was
announced earlier this month, came as somewhat surprising since she has largely
avoided the public eye since Trump's stunning victory in November.
But she had a very simple explanation on Friday
morning.
"I'm here today to honor our democracy
& its enduring values," Clinton's Twitter account posted shortly after
her arrival. "I will never stop believing in our country & its future.
#Inauguration."
Clinton — who wore Ralph Lauren pantsuits (in
red, white and blue) for all three presidential debates, as well as the day of
the election — stepped out in a nude colored Ralph Lauren Collection jewel neck
suit, paired with a double face cashmere cream coat.
Melania Trump also wore Ralph Lauren on Friday.
Shonda Rhimes was one of the first in Hollywood
to commend Hillary Clinton for following Michelle Obama's mantra and
"going high." Sharing her tweet, the prolific TV producer said,
"Maturity, grace and oh boy, is she going high when they went low."
