1. LOUIE VAN GAUL – £6M
Sky
Sports sources believed the Dutchman was informed on Sunday the same night
after winning the FA cup that he would no longer be in charge of the club next
season. He still has a year of his contract worth £6m and Utd will have to
honour it. United then pounced on Jose Mourinho a couple of days later in a
deal worth £18m, why can’t clubs just offer managers one year deals? If Jose
does a Chelsea, how long will it be before he is in this article?
2. ROBERTO MARTINEZ – £4M
Its
now confirmed that Everton FC have sacked their manager Roberto Martinez. Don’t
feel sorry for him as he still has three years left on his contract worth
millions. Its reported although not officially disclosed that Everton have
agreed a compensation package worth around £4m. That’s more money than most of
us ever earn in our lives! Not bad considering how poor the second half of the
season has been for the toffee’s.
Some
Everton fans were saying just six months ago that the recent football at
Goodison Park was the best they had ever seen, then Roberto lost the fans and
the dressing room, how things can change in a short period of time. Frank de
Boer is favourite to take over at Everton FC.
3. QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES – £3M
Amazingly
Watford FC (The Hornets) confirmed Flores would leave his role after only a
year, despite keeping the newly-promoted side in the Premier League and leading
the club to a respectable 13th-placed finish. He walks with a compensation pay
out rumoured to be around £3m. Many fans & players have been left perplexed by the board’s hasty decision, I
mean who do they think they are, Leicester?
Even
the captain Deeney, pointed out that other big clubs such as Sunderland have
battled against relegation while Watford have pretty much”coasted” through and
achieved safety with ease.
4. MANUEL PELLEGRINI – £4.15M
Poor
ole Pellegrini has done a fair job at City but opportunity of head-hunting the
best manager in the world by City (Pep Guardiola) has sparked his demise, don’t
feel too sorry for him though he will walk away with £4.15 million pound in his
back pocket!
5. KENNY DALGLISH – £8.5M
The
former Liverpool superstar midfielder and ex manager came back to Liverpool at
the owners request, after a reasonable run and a couple of rotten buys in the
transfer market Liverpool let him go. The pay off for his troubles was a
staggering £8.5 million pounds, which is historically more than he ever
received as a player or manager at he club. Amazingly Kenny is still employed
by Liverpool FC as an ambassador and is very much loved by the fans. Some say
this pay off was probably overdue for his years of service to Liverpool
Football Club.
6. DAVID MOYES – OVER £4M
David
Moyes received just under £4 million after being sacked by Manchester United in
2014. The Scot was also recently fired by Spanish club ‘Real Sociedad’ and has
received another undisclosed fee. No
wonder he is smiling, he never has to work again…
7. RAFA BENITEZ – £7M
Now
happy at Newcastle, Benitez was recently dismissed by Real Madrid halfway
through last season, Rafa Benitez was not be too concerned, thanks to his
reportedly £7 million-plus pay-off. Hence the huge beaming smile on his face…
he also received a fortune from Liverpool and Inter Milan when he was sacked by
them also. Mourinho and Benitez are worst of enemies but one thing they agree
on is being sacked can be extremely good for you bank balance. Benitez has
confirmed he will be staying woith Newcastle even though they have been
relegated to the Championship
8. BRENDAN RODGERS – £7M
Brendan
did well for a couple of seasons and nearly won the league title with
Liverpool. He was eventually dropped by them after a less than satisfactory
start to the 15/16 season. Rodgers will still be smiling all the way to the
bank with a cool £7 million pay-off. If only we all could get settlement
figures like this for doing a poor job…
9. CARLO ANCELOTTI – £28M
Ancelotti
is a decent manager, to be fair to him some of his sackings have come at the
hands of trigger-happy chairmen. Recently he was paid over £2.5 million after
being sacked by Real Madrid even after winning the champions league. A few
years ago after a poor season in 2011 for Chelsea. Carlo and his backroom staff
were fired and reportedly netted over £28 million in compensation. This makes
Carlo a big contender for the biggest pay-off in football history.
10. CLAUDIO RANIERI – £4M
The
high flying Leicester Manager nicknamed the ‘Tinker Man’ for his continual team
changes, Claudio Ranieri’s big-money pay-off was £4 million after his sacking
by French club Monaco. This was a god send for Leicester football club who
under him are flying at the top of the Premiership. Judging by Leicester’s
terrific season Claudio will definitely not be getting fired again any time
soon, although the ‘Tinker Man’ could have some difficulty keeping some of them
players!
11. TIM SHERWOOD – OVER £2M
Sacked
by Aston Villa after only 8 months in charge and sent away with £2 million in his
back pocket. Tim Sherwood had already netted a fortune when Tottenham fired him
after a five month reign the year earlier. These days he can be seen as a
pundit on Match Of The Day. Quids in Tim.
12. ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS – £16M
Andre
Villas-Boas is a very clever and rich man! He was sacked by Tottenham Hotspurs
in 2013 after a year in charge. Andre recieved
£4 million from Spurs but this was nothing compared to the astonishing
£12 million pay-off from Chelsea two years earlier, this makes Andre another contender
for the biggest pay off in Football history
13. GARY MONK – £3M
After
being sacked for a below par season in 2015 at Swansea City, Gary Monk walked
away with over £3 million for his troubles. Thumbs up Gary.
14. SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON – OVER
£2.5M
Former
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s career spans clubs and countries from
Sweden to China. His ‘nine jobs in seven years’ lands him on our list of 15
football managers who’ve made a fortune from being sacked from various clubs.
His most famous pay off was from England at £2.5 million pounds. Sven obviously
looks happy.
15. LUIZ FELIPE SCOLARI – £16M
Luiz
Felipe Scolari is best known as the ex Brazil team coach. While working for
Chelsea in 2012 he experienced an indifferent time, poor results meant
Abramovich sent him packing with a whopping £16 million pound compensation
package. Another big Chelsea pay out, he is also a contender for the biggest
ever pay-out in Football history.
16. ROBERTO MANCHINI – £10M
The
likeable Manchini had success while at Manchester city winning the league in
his first full season. A feat that no city manager had not accomplished in 44
years. Manchini was sacked in 2013 after failing to win the FA cup against
Wigan FC. Sent on his way with a colossal £10 million pounds in his pocket. He
is the current ‘Internazionale’ manager.
17. FABIO CAPELLO – £1.5M
Despite
leaving his position as England manager on joint terms after a massive falling
out with the FA, Capello still managed to walk away with a £1.5m pound pay out,
which many criticised as reward for failure for England’s performance after the
Euro’s campaign. He is currently manager of Russian national team.
18. STEVE CLARK – £2M
One
of the few managers who expressed genuine surprise at being fired, Steve Clark
left West Bromwich Albion after being sacked by the club. Steve actually did a
very good job, in lots of experts
opinions he didn’t deserve the boot! Steve reportedly walked away with some £2
million pounds.
19. ROY HODGESON- £5M
The
England manager seems to have been around forever. While manager at Liverpool FC he experienced a difficult time,
a series of draws and defeats seen the England man being shown the red card.
Roy left Liverpool FC with a huge £5m handout and walked into the England job.
Talk about landing on your feet Roy!
20. MALKY MACKAY – £2M
Mckays
arrival at the DW stadium as Wigan’s new manager was surrounded in controversy
after he was sacked by Cardiff City, this allegedly netted him £2 million
pounds in pay-off’s. Makly managed just 19 points from a possible 72 at Wigan
that season, the inevitable sacking followed and Malky was laughing all the way
to the bank again!
