Manchester
United players believe Wayne Rooney
should be given the chance to assert his place back in the starting XI.
The
club captain has found himself out of Jose Mourinho’s first-team in recent
weeks after a dip in form.
The
same has happened with England after Gareth Southgate dropped Wayne Rooney to
the bench for their latest World Cup qualifiers.
Mourinho
has deployed Rooney in midfield of late with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus
Rashford leading the line.
But
according to the Daily Mail, several United players want Rooney to play in the
No.9 role and believe he deserves another opportunity to impress.
Rooney
has missed the last two games through injury, but when he returns to full
fitness, his team-mates want him back in the starting line-up and playing
further forward.
With
Rooney out of favour at Old Trafford, recent reports suggest the 31-year-old is
attracting interest from clubs around the world.

Inter
Milan and and Chinese outfit Jiangsu Suning are thought to be keen on him,
while MLS outfit LA Galaxy have reportedly made enquiries over how much Rooney
would cost.
Rooney
is under contract with the Red Devils until 2019, and is just four goals shy of
eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton’s club record of 249 goals.
