Shimon Peres, Former President of Israel, Dies at 93

The lifetime of Shimon Peres, who died Tuesday at age 93 after suffering a stroke on Sept. 13, spans the lifetime of the state of Israel. Born in Belarus, his family moved to Tel Aviv when he was 11, more than a decade before the country was founded. He lived on a kibbutz, when those communal settlements and a utopian, leftist ideology defined the nascent state. He also served in the pre-independence militia that became the Israeli Defense Forces, the institution that would ultimately define Israeli society. A hawk in the early decades of the country’s existence, Peres was a close aide and protege of David Ben-Gurion, the founding father and first prime minister of Israel, and confidant of Moshe Dayan, the commander of the Six-Day War that placed the mountainous West Bank of the Jordan River, and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, under Israeli military occupation.

Hillary Clinton Called Donald Trump A Racist & A Sexist

Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump a racist and a sexist - to his face - in brutal exchanges during the year's first presidential debate Monday night. Her charges of racism stemmed from an age-old complaint that he had supported 'birther' conspiracies questioning Barack Obama's U.S. birth and therefore his eligibility to be president. And she leveled charge after charge at the Republican in an attempt to frame him as an unrepentant chauvinist, aided by a question from moderator Lester Holt about a one-time comment that Clinton lacked 'the look' to be president.

'This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs,' Clinton said - a similar challenge to one Trump faced more than a year ago from Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly at the first GOP primary debate. Monday he answered it a second time with a jab at an old entertainment nemesis. 'Somebody who's been very vicious to me, Rosie O'Donnell - I said very tough things to her,' Trump protested, 'and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it, and nobody feels sorry for her.'

A witness at the ongoing trial of Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, an aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday told a federal court in Lagos that he received $4 million in cash from the defendant.

Trumps v Clintons: Rival Families

Trumps v Clintons: Rival families take their places at historic debate to support Hillary and The Donald as the two candidates go to war

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were joined by their family and political allies as they battled at their first debate at Hofstra University in New York. Trump's adult children were in the hall to support him along with his wife Melania, who was seen for the first time since the Republican National Convention. Ivanka Trump, (left with Melania) Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr and Tiffany Trump (top right with Bill Clinton) all followed Melania into the auditorium before the start of the debate.

Melania then crossed the room and shook the hand of Bill Clinton, bridging the divide between the candidates for the first time. Dressed in a black form-fitting dress Melania and Clinton graciously greeted one another, smiled and appeared to exchange pleasantries.

Is West Ham New Stadium The Reason For Its New Season Early Woos?

West Ham’s early season has moved quickly from uncertainty through disappointment and now into the dangerous realms of farce. Manager Slaven Bilic must shiver when he wonders where his team are heading. Do not be fooled by what could generously be described as a late rally from West Ham. Yes, they should have been awarded a penalty and there were was a toe poke from centre forward — if we can call him that — Simone Zaza that was cleared off the line. But West Ham’s late forward movement was an afterthought, the type of ‘everybody out of the trenches’ stuff that teams resort to when all seems lost.

How Buhari Plunged Nigeria Into Recession - Vanguard

ONE funny aspect of this “blame game” thing, is that you only see what has gone wrong in terms of “the other person” – the person you are pointing accusing fingers at. You hardly realise that as you point one finger at the other person, three of your other fingers are also accusing you, but they are usually hidden from your sight. In the Bible, Our Lord Jesus Christ warned us not to judge others, but to first of all remove the log in our eyes before complaining about the speck in the eyes of our neighbours (or opponents).

We are in an economic recession. Two questions are pertinent: (a) how did we get there? And (b) how do we get out of it?

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government, in tackling question number one, blames “others”, but it does not see the roles it played in bringing the nation into this pass. This is what I am here to address; that we do not allow them to confuse us with their unrelenting propaganda, the vessel that brought them to power and which they are depending upon to run the affairs of a nation in a deep economic distress. Fortunately, the propaganda has lost its allure in the face of massive suffering, poverty, hunger, mass joblessness and soaring crime rates. Nobody wants to hear any more excuses, and this applies even to the apologists of the regime.

Naira To Strengthen As Travelex Begins Forex Distribution

The Nigerian Naira is expected to improve against the dollar when Travelex commences operation on Monday.

Travelex, an international money transfer agent was first mentioned as an alternative dealer to the Bureau de Change operators in January when the central bank announced its decision to discontinue the sales of forex to the BDCs early this year.

It is believed that the introduction of Travelex to Bureau de Change segment will help close the gap between the parallel market and bank’s rate, and facilitates even distribution of forex to the Bureau de Change operators in Nigeria.

According to the president of the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, Travelex has the technology to sell forex to over 1,000 Bureau de Change operators within a few hours, which he said is a major advantage and he assured that the distribution would be efficient and uniform across ABCON members, unlike what was obtained in the past.

Police in Pakistan have accused her father Mohammad Shahid and first husband Mohammad Shakeel (together right outside court today) of murder and prosecutors want the death penalty if they are convicted. But a final report on her death shows that Samia's mother Imtiaz and sister Madiha are accused of 'abetting the murder'.

NOW ITS REAL WAR BETWEEN MR & MRS SMITH

Angelina Jolie and her team have set up a war room in a private Los Angeles home as they prepare to take on Brad Pitt (pictured together left and centre) in the divorce of the century. At the same time, a source close to the couple tells DailyMail.com that Pitt just wants to resolve the divorce amicably for the sake of the children (family pictured top right), whose safety is his main concern at this time. 'Brad still cares for Angelina very much and respects her as the mother of his children,' says the source. 'But after the rhetoric that has been put out over the past 24 hours about his drinking and doing drugs, along with the completely untrue rumors about him having an affair with his co-star Marion Cotillard (bottom right), he is hoping to be able to turn the volume down.' The source then added that while people close to Jolie have been going after Pitt in the press, he is making sure that his friends and colleagues say nothing negative about his estranged wife. 'People close to him specifically avoided criticizing her while trying to stay positive in defending him at Brad's request,' explains the source.

Elumelu Wins Africa Investor ‘Person Of The Year’ Award In New York

He first acknowledged the staff and management of Transcorp Power, the biggest producer of thermal energy in Nigeria, providing about 18 per cent of national output: “In accepting this award, I want to dedicate it to Transcorp Power staff who remain committed to realizing our dream of improving access to electricity in Nigeria and making our vision of a well-lit, fully powered Nigeria come true,” he said.

Transcorp Power has supported U.S. President Obama’s Power Africa initiative with a $2.5billion commitment. He thanked the broader coalition of investors in the African power sector, as he urged other institutional investors to consider long-term opportunities on the continent. “I also dedicate this to all stakeholders working hard to improve access to power in Africa. I call on others to please join us in this journey to powering Africa out of poverty,” he added.

As the economies of African regional powerhouses like Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Uganda, Nigeria and Angola struggle due to excessive exposure to commodities’ prices caused by limited diversification, Elumelu proffered a sustainable solution to reduce Africa’s historical external vulnerability.

Don’t Sell NLNG Or Other Critical Assets, RMAFC Advises FG

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission on Tuesday said that Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas and other federation assets should not be sold to meet the country’s financial obligations.

The commission’s Acting Chairman, Alhaji Shettima Abba-Gana, was reacting to Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s suggestion that the country`s assets be sold off to augment the current revenue shortfall being experienced by the nation following the economic recession.

Abba-Gana, in a statement, said it would be unwise for the Federal Government to dispose of its crown jewels which were generating revenues and keeping the Federation Account healthy over a long term.

He cited the NEITI 2013 Audit and Financial Report of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, adding that 12.9 billion dollars was received by the NNPC from NLNG over an eight-year period.

US: Restaurant Owner Who Posted 'Muslims Get Out' Sign Invited To Mosque

The Council of American-Islamic Relations hopes a meeting with local Muslims will change the business owner's view of Minnesota's Islamic community
A restaurant owner in the United States (US), who had put up a "Muslims get out" sign outside his eatery as he was upset over the recent stabbing in Minnesota, has been invited to a mosque to learn more about Islam and the Muslim community.

Dan Ruedinger, the owner of the Treats Family Restaurant, has said that he had put up the controversial sign because he was upset over the stabbings at a St Cloud mall in Minnesota. A man making "some references to Allah" stabbed and injured eight people in the shopping mall, before being shot dead by an off-duty officer.

"We are not targeting the Muslims in general, just the extremists," Dan Reudinger has said. "That's all I can say. It's my right and I'm going to stand up, and I wish more people would do it," CBS Minnesota reported on Wednesday.

Trump And Hillary Exchange Barbs Over Islamic State

Hillary Clinton accused Donald Trump of giving "aid and comfort" to Islamic terrorists, declaring his anti-Muslim rhetoric helps the Islamic State group and other militants such as ISIS recruit new fighters.

But Trump hit back, saying his Democratic rival and the Obama administration hadn't done enough to quell the group's rise. "Her attacks on me are all meant to deflect from her record of unleashing this monster of evil on us and on the world," said Trump at a packed Florida rally, referring to Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

He also insisted the US should "use whatever lawful methods are available" to get information from the Afghan immigrant arrested in September 17-18 bombings. As several Trump supporters shouted "Hang him!" the Republican presidential candidate bemoaned the fact that Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old US citizen originally from Afghanistan, would receive quality medical care and legal representation.

Kelechi Iheanacho Vs Marcus Rashford - Who's better! A Trending Argument On Twitter

One of the more interesting battles that emerged from the Manchester derby, however, and one that possibly was swept under the rug amidst the excitement of the Rocky-Drago-esque clash that was Jose-Pep, was the battle of youth. More specifically, the battle of two young strikers, United’s 18-year old prodigy Marcus Rashford vs. City’s star in the making Kelechi Iheanacho.
How two young strikers – products of the respective youth systems – became pivotal in the weekend’s tie was fascinating, especially considering the respective worth of each side’s starting XI.
And although it seems logical to say Iheanacho came out on top having got on the scoresheet during the win, young Rashford was equally as impressive during his short spell in the game, prompting Jose Mourinho to promise him a starting place against Feyenoord this Thursday night.

Tony Elumelu Establishes Tenoil, An Oil And Gas Production Firm (Pics)

At Heirs Holdings, we believe in, and demonstrably practice, Africapitalism as  our investment strategy. Our investments across key sectors of the economy including financial services, hospitality & real estate, power, oil and gas, amongst others, reflect our commitment to engage in businesses that generate economic profits while contributing to widespread social prosperity on the African continent.

For example, our inclusive approach to banking, first through Standard Trust and now United Bank for Africa (UBA), has allowed millions of people formerly excluded from the formal financial services sector, to now own bank accounts, access capital and execute fund transfers to friends, relatives and business partners all across Africa and around the world. Just as we have done in banking, I look forward to Tenoil – our oil and gas investment arm –  to impact the Nigerian energy sector through building a truly indigenous  company that is fully integrated across the energy value chain.

Nigeria Spent N264 Billion On Refineries With No Results

Nigeria has spent N264 billion on maintenance of its four refineries since 1999 when the country returned to democracy, Daily Trust investigation has shown.

But this massive spending has not been able to put the refineries back on production line, analysts say. As a result Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer imports most of its petrol for domestic use.

The four refineries located in Port Harcourt (two), Warri and Kaduna have a combined capacity to refine 445,000 barrels of crude per day.
They have over the years suffered what one analyst described as “total disrepair and comprehensive paralysis in the past three decades.

We’re Suing The IRS For Audits Of Donald Trump’s Tax Returns

For more than a year, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has claimed that he would "love" to release his tax returns and prove to the public that he is indeed a very wealthy and charitable businessman.

But, he's said, there's a hiccup that prevents him from doing so: The tax returns he filed between 2002 and 2008 continue to be audited by the Internal Revenue Service.

Last February, however, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said that it is "rare" for an individual taxpayer to be audited every year, as Trump insisted he has been. Koskinen noted there is nothing legally stopping any taxpayer from releasing his or her returns publicly.

Manchester and Lancashire Hit By Thunderstorms, Rain & Flood (Pics)

Now it's raining INSIDE: Supermarkets are flooded and cars swept away as hottest day of year is followed by torrential downpours, lightning and TORNADOES (but it's still scorching in the south)

Temperatures soared to 34.4C (94F) in Gravesend in Kent yesterday, the hottest September day in more than 100 years. Many people took to Twitter to complain about being unable to sleep because of the heat. It wasn't the same for everyone in the UK, however, as Manchester (centre and inset) and Lancashire was hit by violent thunderstorms, flash flooding and power cuts and a tornado touched down on Sheffield. Roads and even supermarkets in the North West were swallowed in deluges, with trains, flights and football games also disrupted - but the Met Office has said it will be a drier day for most of the country today.

CHRIS BROWN GOES OFF ON FAN DURING BASKETBALL GAME

Chris Brown was full of piss and vinegar at a charity basketball game Sunday, getting in a heated, prolonged argument with someone in the stands ... intense enough for cops to get involved.
Chris was at the Power 106 Celebrity Basketball Game at USC, when he became visibly upset. It's hard to hear what the beef was about because of loud music, but you hear one of the USC cops say, "I don't care who's here, get it straight."

Chris also refused to stand during Tank's rendition of the National Anthem. He didn't kneel ... he sat. And he was anything but solemn ... yukking it up.

Inside Abuja Sex Slums -Why We Are Into Prostitution

In Abuja, the nation’s capital, prostitution is a thriving business. It is a trade predominantly plied by some single ladies. There are male prostitutes, but they are in the extreme minority. Male prostitutes, unlike their female counterparts, do not adorn highways to solicit for female customers.

Abuja has major districts, cities and places where open prostitution takes place. Wuse II is notorious for that. Garki, Maitama, Jabi and a few other places also harbour a handful of daughters of Eve. In these districts, prostitutes and their clients either “relief tensions” inside their vehicles or get a cheap hotel to exchange body fluids.

But there are places in Abuja where another brand of prostitution holds sway, the slums. Abuja slums are scattered everywhere in the city. They lack basic amenities and are often times, temporal places of abode, occupied by homeless people.
