My Sugar Mummy And I – The Beginning

I’m sitting in my mum’s shop away from the busy life of Lagos (mind you, we live in the suburbs of Lagos) trying to think what next after graduation, cos this boredom is killing me like crazy. Months now since I dropped the pen after that very last exam and popping champagne and drinking booze all-night trying to believe we’ve graduated (even though we aint seen our result yet) and the thought of NYSC is still months away, does kill me (partially because I think it’s a waste of a year in your life and the suspense of not knowing if you’d be thrown in a crisis torn or technologically deprived village). Amidst this thought my phone rang…. The second ring broke my thought and on checking who it was it was Mrs. Y

Trump’s Doctor Draws Fresh Scrutiny (for all the wrong reasons)

The story of Dr. Harold Bornstein, who says he’s been Donald Trump’s personal physician since 1980, has always been odd. Late last year for example, Team Trump released an unintentionally hilarious, four-paragraph letter from the doctor – the only medical information we have about the Republican candidate – asserting that Trump’s “physical strength and stamina are extraordinary” and his lab tests results were “astonishingly excellent.”

Bornstein added at the time, “If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

On The Matter Of The Dog Named ‘Buhari’ By Abimbola Adelakun

When the Ogun State Police arrested Joe Chinakwe after his neighbour reported him for naming his dog “Alhaji Buhari”, and for walking the same dog in their “Hausa dominated neighbourhood,” they did not try to mask why they took that line of action. According to media reports, they charged him to court because his “provocative” act could cause a breach of peace, and that was because “an average Northerner would feel bad over such a thing.” Underlining their motive is the reality of our socio-political environment. When law enforcement admits to arresting a man to preserve the feelings of his accusers who can launch gratuitous violence, they mean the evil we are dealing with surpasses their level of efficiency.

History has taught us that whenever the “average northerner” says he “feels bad over a thing”, the rest of us are supposed to hurriedly rearrange our manners. We are told to take heed of invisible limits that “infidels” are not permitted to cross. Alarmingly, a number of us have restricted ourselves to this emasculating avoidance of wrath. We have mapped out “no-go areas” of public discussion that we trespass at grievous risks to ourselves. We have seen the repercussions of trespassing these bounds and they are not pleasant. From Gideon Akaluka’s killings to the Reinhard Bonnke crusade violence, the Miss World riots, the Danish cartoons saga, and many other instances of unwarranted violence that have occurred, we have long realised we are dealing with a short-tempered evil spirit who demands a sacrifice of our collective dignity so he can let us live.

The Receptionist – Episode 4

‘Ok, we are leaving’ Michael said
‘Alright’ Mr Ifeanyi responded, without giving me a second glance as he walked away.
My heart beat was on a marathon race as different thoughts flew in my head. I was silent as I wondered if I had lost the job I just resumed. How do I start all over again, I can never go back to Mrs Vera. How do I tell my mum? My ex-colleagues who were thrilled with my new job, how do I explain I didn’t last 24 hours in the building.
‘Why are you so quiet?, what have I done this time?’ Michael asked
‘That man is my boss’
‘Mr John?’ Michael asked surprised
“Mr Ifeanyi, the owner of the company’
‘Fuck!’ Michael exclaimed and went mute.
We drove in silence, as I knew he was giving me time to think and get over the shock.
7:45PM
‘Yvette, stop scolding yourself. Put the blame on me if that will make you feel better’
‘No, it doesn’t’ I replied, I had lost appetite to eat, as I forced another spoonful of rice down my throat
‘You are not a baby, you were not kissing me inside the office, that’s a car park.’
‘Yes, but considering how I got the job I am at the mercy of Mr ifeanyi’
‘You said he is a nice man, he didn’t look bothered, he was more in a hurry to go out’ Michael argued

You have been a military officer and a Head of State, which one was more challenging?

Being a military officer was more challenging than being a military President. As a military officer, you are leading men into danger, your life and their lives very much depend on you as the Commander. I see it as more challenging than being the President.

Yes, Ndi Igbo, ‘Go Home’

I READ an interesting Facebook broadcast by a friend of mine, Ray Morphy Ugba, the morning just before coming to the office to write this article. Ray is a journalist, politician, blogger and (from what I saw after the broadcast) also a musician.

He hails from Cross River State, though he seems quite proud of the fact that his mother is an Igbo woman, which is why he calls Igbos “my mother’s people”. Ray referred to a recent controversial statement credited to the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on a visit to Badagry, where he said Lagos was not a “colony” but part of the Yoruba homeland (which is true).

He reportedly announced that there was “nothing like Eze Ndi Igbo again” in the state, stressing his determination to move several markets (like Mile 12, Ladipo and others) to outskirts of the metropolics. This outing has been trending in the social media, and some Igbo people believe it is yet another pointer to the fact that Ambode is an “enemy” of their people.

Parental Influences On Kids & The Generation

💡A father’s influence goes to the fourth generation after him. Whitney Houston’s parents Emily (Cissy) and John Houston divorced when she was at kindergarten. Together with lover, Bobby Brown, Whitney smoked crack in the presence of their 5 year old daughter, Bobbi Kristina. At 22, Bobbi died of drug abuse…her mother Whitney died at 48 on similar grounds. Great careers and more importantly, great lives lost due to weak fatherhood.

💡While there is little you can do about your ancestors, there is something that you can do about your descendants. One thing that prevents a man from being a good father is that he hasn’t completed being a boy. To be in your children’s’ memory tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.  Having kids doesn’t make you a father. Raising them does.

💡There are many of us who were raised up in unstable families but we don’t have to pass it on to our children. We don’t have to fight in the presence of our children. We can choose to shield their emotions from our disputes as adults. To a large extent, you are a product of your early relationships

Meet The Man With 27 Wives, 145 Children Who Surprisingly Doesn’t Support Polygamy (+Photo)

Polygamy is a practice that is banned in most countries across the world and one clearly seen as threat to women’s rights.

Winston Blackmore, a 59-year-old Canadian with 27 wives and 145 children whom people would think should be the poster-boy for polygamy, surprisingly says that he won’t support legalization of the practice since he fears that ‘women could be exploited’.
Blackmore who is the leader of a polygamist Mormon fundamentalist group in Canada said this while addressing an audience in Utah.

He has also been arrested for polygamy in 2007 and has been tried twice for practicing polygamy.

A lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics of the Osun State University, Ikire Campus, Dr. Wale Ojoniyi, is currently in trouble following the release of a video tape of his alleged sex escapade with a 400 level English student of the institution, Mercy Ikwue.

The student, who released the over 30-minute video clip, recorded it in a hotel room.

Although some claimed the lecturer raped the student, real sexual intercourse was not captured in the video.

There was also no attempt by the man in the video to coerce the student to cooperate with him.

In a petition written to The Punch, some students of the university claimed that Ojoniyi was instrumental to the suspension of the female student, after she was allegedly caught for examination malpractices.

On her return to the university after the one academic session rustication, the petition claimed the lecturer mounted pressure on the student for an amorous affair but the lady resisted him.

50 G.O.P. Officials Warn Donald Trump Would Put Nation’s Security ‘At Risk’

Fifty of the nation’s most senior Republican national security officials, many of them former top aides or cabinet members for President George W. Bush, have signed a letter declaring that Donald J. Trump “lacks the character, values and experience” to be president and “would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.”
Mr. Trump, the officials warn, “would be the most reckless president in American history.”
The letter says Mr. Trump would weaken the United States’ moral authority and questions his knowledge of and belief in the Constitution. It says he has “demonstrated repeatedly that he has little understanding” of the nation’s “vital national interests, its complex diplomatic challenges, its indispensable alliances and the democratic values” on which American policy should be based. And it laments that “Mr. Trump has shown no interest in educating himself.”

"Kill Christians, Target Churches Not Mosques" – New Boko Haram Leader, Al-Barnawi

Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamic extremists have a new leader who is threatening to bomb churches and kill Christians while ending attacks on mosques and markets used by ordinary Muslims, according to an interview published Wednesday by the Islamic State group.

He also says there is a Western plot to Christianize the region and has accused charities of using their aid for that, according to a SITE Intelligence Group translation of an interview published Wednesday in the Islamic State newspaper al-Nabaa.

The newspaper identified Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new “Wali,” or governor, of its so-called West Africa Province. The “Wali” title was previously used to describe long-time Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

Dahiru Saleh: "I Annulled June 12 Election, Not IBB"

A former chief judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Dahiru Saleh (retd.), who tied the last judicial knot before the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election has absolved former President Ibrahim Babangida of culpability over the issue.

Saleh, while taking responsibility for the annulment, also faulted the failure of Chief Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the election, to appeal his decision.

Justice Saleh had in June 1993 ordered the then National Electoral Commission, NEC, to stop further release of the results of the election upon the claim that the election itself should not have been conducted in the first place.

He had cited the mid-night ruling on June 11, 1993, by Justice Bassey Ikpeme that the election should not hold.

The Prof. Humphrey Nwosu-led NEC had upon the provisions of Decree 13 of 1993 which ousted the courts from derailing the transition programme, gone ahead to conduct the election on June 12 which turned out to be one of the best organised elections in the history of the country.

Trump Contemplating He Might Lose

Is it possible that Donald Trump has begun to contemplate his own political mortality? Is it possible that Trump, who had previously boasted to GOP primary audiences that he would beat Hillary Clinton “easily” — has begun to contemplate the possibility that he might lose the presidential election?

It is perhaps not a coincidence that Trump has suddenly stopped tweeting about polls (which are now showing Clinton taking a meaningful lead) at precisely the moment that he is escalating his efforts to cast doubt, in advance, on the legitimacy of the general election’s outcome.

Trump Is "Woefully Unprepared To Do This Job."- OBAMA

US President Obama on Tuesday slammed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying he is "unfit to serve as president" as he does not abide by norms and rules.

"I think the Republican nominee is unfit to serve as president," Obama said at a White House news conference. "I said so last week. He keeps proving it." Obama added that Trump has shown he is "woefully unprepared to do this job" after his comments on military families as well as his handle on foreign affairs.

He slammed Trump for his rhetoric, including the one against parents of a slain Muslim-American soldier, and said the Republican presidential nominee doesn't have the judgment, temperament or understanding to be the president of the country. As such he was highly critical of the Republican leadership who are supporting the billionaire from New York.

The Receptionist [Episode 3]

Nov 18th 10: 43am
Walking down the stairs, I was in a hurry to head back home and prepare for my big day tomorrow.
‘Yvette! Yvette!’ I heard a familiar voice call out my name.
‘Not now’ I muttered to myself as I plastered a tired look on my face.
‘Where are you rushing off to?’ Michael asked with his usual friendly smile.
‘Going home’
‘Can I drop you off? ‘
‘No’
‘Why?’
‘I don’t want to stress you, my place and yours are in two opposite directions’ I lied
‘Yvette, you can never be stressing me’ He said already walking me out of the church premises.
‘Really, you don’t have to’ I insisted but not with the same tone and seriousness as before.
11:03am
The drive to my house was quiet and seemed like it wasn’t coming to an end, the growing queues in fuel stations also brought traffic with it.
‘You look good’ He said, giving me a quick glance
‘Thank you’ I replied, twisting my fingers.

Rio Security Guard ‘Raped Firefighter’ Inside Olympic Park

A Rio security guard has been arrested after allegedly raping a firefighter as she slept in the Olympic Park just days before the opening ceremony.

Lewis Hamilton Cruises To German Grand Prix Victory

With a puff of his cheeks, Lewis Hamilton had only one word to describe the seismic shift in this season's title race. 'Crazy'. The Briton heads into the summer break buoyant after winning the German Grand Prix - his fourth win on the trot and sixth in seven races - and extending his championship lead to 19 points. Hamilton took full advantage of a miserable afternoon for Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, whose dreams of a maiden world title are disappearing as quickly as Hamilton did at Hockenheim on Sunday.

  • ·        Poor start from Nico Rosberg saw him drop behind Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen
  • ·         Hamilton took lead from his Mercedes team-mate at turn one and never looked in trouble in Hockenheim
  • ·         Rosberg was given five second penalty for forcing Verstappen off the circuit in his efforts to overtake him
  • ·         German Grand Prix win means Hamilton leads championship by 19 points heading into summer break

Trump's Dispute With Muslim Family Emerges As Flash Point

Donald J. Trump reeled on Sunday amid a sustained campaign of criticism by the parents of a Muslim American soldier killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq and a rising outcry within his own party over his rough and racially charged dismissal of the couple.

The confrontation between the parents, Khizr and Ghazala Khan, and Mr. Trump has emerged as an unexpected and potentially pivotal flash point in the general election. Mr. Trump has plainly struggled to respond to the reproach of a military family who lost a child, and he has repeatedly answered the Khan family’s criticism with harsh and defensive rhetoric.
