REST IN PEACE CECIL

Dedicated To The Lion That Was Gruesomely Murdered

Cecil the lion was shot, beheaded and skinned by an American hunter after being lured out of a Zimbabwean national park. The murder of Cecil has rightly sparked anger around the world.

We pause to mourn Cecil and all the animals whose lives are stolen from them. Cecil was loved by humans, but his life was important because it mattered to him, just as the lives of chickens strung up for slaughter, or cows having a bolt shot through their brain, matter to them.

If you are outraged by the killing of Cecil, please extend your circle of compassion to all the billions of innocent animals whose lives are taken every day around the world.

ANIMALS ARE NOT OURS to hunt, eat, wear, experiment on or exploit.

Phone data could predict with 87% accuracy whether someone had depressive symptoms

Most of us are pretty attached to our phones, and researchers are starting to figure out what that connection can tell us about our health, including our mood. In fact, your phone may be able to tell if you’re depressed even better than a self-assessment of your own depression can, according to a small new study published in theJournal of Medical Internet Research.
“We found that the more time people spend on their phones, the more likely they are to be more depressed,” says David Mohr, one of the authors of the study and director of the Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The researchers also found that spending lots of time at home was linked to depression—and that phone data like this could predict with 87% accuracy whether someone had symptoms of depression.

PEOPLE WITH BLUE EYES DRINK MORE BOOZE, SCIENTISTS SUGGEST

Scientists believe they have found a link between eye colour and alcohol dependency.

The work was led by Arvis Sulovari, a doctoral student in cellular, molecular and biological sciences, and Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics Dawei Li, Ph.D.
Li began his research in 2012 and built up a data base of 10,000 African Americans and European Americans. All of which had been diagnosed with at least one psychiatric illness or an addiction like alcohol dependency.
The study was then narrowed down to 1,263 people struggling with alcohol addiction.

3 Youngest Billionaires And How They Got There

There’s something to be said about people who get rich. That in and of itself is an accomplishment that most of us simply won’t reach. In the past, most people who got rich did so over a fairly long period of time. But as technology has gotten more popular, the world simply moves at a much, much faster pace than it used to. With the advent of YouTube stars, app moguls and the technologically savvy, the truth is that most anyone can be a millionaire these days. Just take a look at the three youngest billionaires in the world:

3. Yang Huiyan

How many times have we heard the old, tired trope of the spoiled kids who inherit all their fortunes and squander it in a matter of years? Far too often of you ask us. Among the more refreshing rich people on this list is Yang Huiyan. Huiyan is the daughter of Chinese real estate mega mogul Yeung Kwok Keung, who owns one of China’s largest real estate development companies. Terminally ill Six-Year-Old Given Honorary High School Diploma (Highly Touching)

A terminally ill six-year-old boy has been given an honorary diploma from a local high school during their graduation ceremony.
Jordan Planitz suffers from MPPH (Megalencephaly, Polymicrogyria, Polydactyly and Hydrocephalus) – a rare and terminal neurological syndrome.
While it is unlikely little Jordan will see his own graduation, kind students at the Tri-City High School in Illinois invited him along to their ceremony.

They had gotten to know Jordan during the ‘principal for a day’ initiative started by the now ex-principal Dustin Day, which allowed sick children to come in and act as the school’s head for a day.
Jordan’s mother, Deanna told ABC News: ‘Jordan was invited, and we went and met the most amazing senior class that you’ll ever come across.

Jack Ma, China's Richest Man, Says He Was Happier When He Wasn't A Billionaire

Jack Ma, the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba, became the richest man in China after Alibaba IPO'd for a record $25 billion last September.
But Ma was just as happy — perhaps even happier — when he was barely making any money right out of college.

After graduating in 1988, Ma worked as an English teacher at a local university in his hometown of Hangzhou, China. He only made $12 a month, according to the documentary about his life called "Crocodile in the Yangtze."

When speaking at a luncheon with the Economics Club of New York on Tuesday, Ma referred to this period as the "best life I had."

The World Most Peaceful Place Is.....?

In search of peace? Maybe it's time to move to Iceland.

According to the nonprofit Institute for Economics and Peace, the thinly populated island in the midst of the North Atlantic has retained its place as the most peaceful country in the world.

The institute released its Global Peace Index for 2015 this week, which ranks 162 nations around the globe based on factors like the level of violent crime, involvement in conflicts and the degree of militarization.
Six out of the top 10 most peaceful countries were European, with Denmark and Austria holding the second and third spots.

"Europe maintained its position as the most peaceful region in the world, supported by a lack of domestic and external conflicts," the report said.

But that glowing review is helped by the fact that violence-plagued Ukraine is lumped into a different region: Russia and Eurasia.

U.S. in bottom half of rankings

Mexico Drug Lord Escape "El Chapo" Photos And Video Tell the Story

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was able to escape in relative comfort, because new photos show he had a top notch construction crew that could pass inspection in most cities.
It's probably a good thing the cuisine in Mexican jail isn't five star, because the hole would barely accommodate a 32" waist.
But once Chapo scurried down the hole, it was clear sailing because the rig was borderline comfortable.

Chapo's contributors sparrowed no expense ... a bird was used to test the tunnel for toxic fumes. The sparrow didn't fare as well as Chapo.
10,000 officers (and one billionaire) are on high alert as they try to recapture him.

10 Things You Need To Know About The “Outgoing Introvert” Partner

Ah the outgoing introvert – the most complex and satisfying of all puzzles.
We have mad layers of depth and feelings…like an onion. Or something. I don’t know. Just read and get to know what you’re getting yourself into before dating us, okay?

1. When we see you after a long day, we might be all irritable and not want to talk
It has nothing to do with you. Outgoing introverts, though still introverts at their core, often need to recharge after a large use of social energy. After a long day of dealing with people, our social batteries are drained and we need to unwind and recover, usually alone.

2. We’re charming creatures and can be the life of the party, but…
You’ll be surprised how much we actually live in our heads. People often confuse us for extroverts, but we’re too introspective and over-think too much to be one.

3. If we like you, we really like you.
We don’t waste our time with people we’re not completely crazy about. If we agreed to go on a date with you, we like you. Take it as a huge compliment.

Can Money Buy Happiness?

It’s an age-old question: Can money buy happiness?

Over the past few years, new research has given us a much deeper understanding of the relationship between what we earn and how we feel. Economists have been scrutinizing the links between income and happiness across nations, and psychologists have probed individuals to find out what really makes us tick when it comes to cash.

The results, at first glance, may seem a bit obvious: Yes, people with higher incomes are, broadly speaking, happier than those who struggle to get by.

But dig a little deeper into the findings, and they get a lot more surprising—and a lot more useful.

In short, this latest research suggests, wealth alone doesn’t provide any guarantee of a good life. What matters a lot more than a big income is how people spend it. For instance, giving money away makes people a lot happier than lavishing it on themselves. And when they do spend money on themselves, people are a lot happier when they use it for experiences like travel than for material goods.

Please Yetunde, how many stories do you want to tell us? You know deep within your heart that you asked me out, though people may not know. It was even reported when you came to Nigeria to beg me to marry you. You were stalking me around during my movie shoot in order to spite your ex-husband. You went to church and told me that your pastor told you not to think about your husband again. Why are you now turning the story around and telling lies?

Netherlands Close Prisons Due To Lack Of Criminals

As prison populations surge in the UK, with overcrowded cells and repeat offenders, the opposite is happening in the Netherlands.

The country is actually to close eight prisons because of a lack of criminals, the Dutch justice ministry has announced.

Declining crime rates in the Netherlands mean that although the country has the capacity for 14,000 prisoners, there are only 12,000 detainees, reported the nrc.nl.

The decrease is expected to continue, the ministry said, with Deputy justice minister Nebahat Albayrak saying that natural redundancy and other measures should counter any forced lay-offs.

Why Egyptian Girls Fear The Summer

Summer days: They're what childhood memories are made of, glorious afternoons of unchecked freedom to frolic with friends in the sun, unshackled from the earthly obligations of a math class that never seemed further away.
But for millions of schoolgirls in Egypt, this time of year represents something much darker: the start of the female genital mutilation (FGM) season.
Mona Mohamed was 10 years old when she underwent what's also known as a female circumcision on a hot summer day in her village in Upper Egypt.

"I was terrified," she said. "They tied me down, my mother on one hand and my grandmother on the other."
As Mona thrashed around, pinned by her loved ones to the living room floor, a doctor injected her with anesthesia.

FOOD FOR THOUGHTS

Just last week, the US Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage, hundred of years after ‘they’ pontificated the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah due to immoral act of homosexuality.

This same people convinced us that New Yam, Egungun, Igue festivals etc are ungodly. Yet, Halloween is established, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is accepted, and countless days of known and unknown saints are celebrated.

Again, they told us to tear down shrines of our chi or ori (guardian angel) while we are drawn to the shrines of ‘guardian saints’ in the churches.
They made us destroy all forms of traditional medicines on account of taste, colour and odour, while they have craftily introduced their alternatives - Ginseng, Forever Living, GNLD, Organogold, Trevo, Origin etc.

The most painful till date is the how they convinced us to set fire to our A-Grade cannabis (certified by Shabba Ranks, when he smoked Fela’s) whereas they have grown their pot market to $10.7 billion industry.

My take is that 80% - 90% of what guides religious doctrines are certain individuals’ preferences instituted by claim of divinity. Whereas, 90% of the rule/ laws that guard the society are determined by few individuals for some implicit reasons other than the explicit benefit to the larger society.

In conclusion, no nation or people will develop using the template of foreign nations. And no individual can be genuinely happy with the prescriptions of others.

Suspect Weeps After Realizing Judge Is Ex-classmate (Very Touching/Video)

A Miami-Dade judge and a burglary suspect had a one-of-a-kind reunion in bond court, as the man broke down in tears, while the judge offered him some supportive advice.

Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer never expected a middle school reunion would occur while on the job.

"Mr. Booth, I have a question for you," she asked 49-year-old Arthur Booth.

"Yes, ma'am?" he responded.

"Did you go to Nautilus for middle school?"

"Oh, my goodness," said Booth, as he covered his mouth in shock.

Booth, now a suspected burglar, was reunited with his middle school classmate decades later in the court of law. When realizing who his judge was, he broke down in tears.

"Sorry to see you there," said the judge. "Mr. Booth, I hope you're able to change your ways, good luck to you."

Booth's bond was set at $43,000

'Yes we have joined ISIS' Say Missing British Family Of 12 Who Fled To Syria

A British family of 12 who were feared to have joined in Isis in Syria have released a statement confirming that they have indeed fled to the self-proclaimed caliphate.

The Mannan family, from Luton, including a 75-year-old patriarch and a baby of one, said in the statement that “we are in the Islamic State” and “we feel safer than we have ever felt before”.

They had not been seen 17 May, having flown to their homeland of Bangladesh on 10 April and then to Istanbul in Turkey on 11 May – prompting Bedfordshire Police to launch an appeal to trace them.

Now the Mannans have declared that they have made it to Syria. A statement posted on the Isis website amounts to a broadside against the “so called freedom and democracy” of the “totalitarian” West, which they said is trying to brainwash Muslims.

The statement, released on the family’s behalf, says: “Yes, all 12 of us and why should this number be shocking, when there are thousands and thousands of Muslims from all corners of the world that are crossing over land and sea everyday to come to the Islamic State?

"Don't be shocked when we say that none of us were forced against our will. In fact it is outrageous to think that an entire family could be kidnapped and made to migrate like this.“

It’s Been 1 Year And Ghana Police Is Still Searching For Castro And Janet

On July 6, 2014, hiplife artiste, Castro, born Theophilus Tagoe and his female companion, Janet Bandu disappeared during a jet-ski ride on the Volta river in Ada and many are those who believe the police charged with searching for them are not doing enough.

There are even some who believe the police has entirely stopped looking for the two but DSP James Benefo Darkwah, PRO of the Police CID, says the search is still on.

“We have not given up. We still make constant checks to find out if there is anything new. We are still searching for them. The investigations to locate the whereabout of both Castro and Janet Bandu are still ongoing.

We have extended the search and Interpol Ghana has informed their colleagues in the sub-region to search as well. That is to let us know if they come across any missing persons. They have been given the necessary information about them so we are still searching.”

He said they were still open to all possibilities and hoped they would still locate the two missing persons.

“We are still hoping for a positive result from our search and since every case is treated on its own merit, we have not given up hope. Legally we can only pronounce them dead after seven years so at the moment we believe they are alive” he said.

This is because The Evidence Act of 1975, Section 33, says a person can only be declared legally dead after seven years by a court, where the person in question has not been seen or heard from in seven years despite diligent and persistent efforts to find him.
